One of the characteristics of bad breath that makes things more complicated is the fact that the person who has the breath problem often times does not realize it! This is because we often get used the smell of our own bad breath. However, just because the bearer of bad breath does not know he has it, does not mean that others have missed it too!
I think it is only fair to admit, if you have every had the unpleasant experience of talking to someone face-to-face who has bad breath, that bad breath is repulsive. Therefore, it is to our benefit to do something about it!
The next problem is finding a solution that is actually effective! There are so many products out there that claim to ‘help’ with bad breath, but in reality they often do a very poor job of simply ‘covering’ the breath without actually getting to the underlying problem. When the covering scent wears out, the bad breath remains.
Actually, some of these covering scents are not very pleasant in and of themselves. For example, a heavy alcohol smell can stay on the breath. Sure, the bad breath smell is temporarily not noticeable, but the alcohol smell could be even more offensive to others!
There are some fundamental understandings that one should be aware of when attempting to fight and eliminate bad breath. You can read more about it here.
To give a quick synopsis: it is important to use a pH balanced, oxygenated mouthwash. Coverups are not going to do the trick and they do not last very long either.
To recap, bad breath can be a powerful interference to your social life and even your career. When interacting with others, we want our breath to be clear and clean of any offensive odors.
