Mouthwash for Bad Breath – What You Are Really Looking For!
There are so many mouthwashes that are made for bad breath that it is quite exasperating!
But when it comes down to it, we all intuitively know that no ALL mouthwash can be equal. There has to be a best mouthwash that can destroy bad breath.
Here Is What To Look For In a Mouthwash For Bad Breath:
1. Oxygenation – Is it an oxygenated mouthwash that is going to have an impact on the bacteria that cause bad breath? An OxyChlor compound is most likely the most powerful and safest alternative. Oxygen is a powerful agent to act against the anaerobic (oxygen shunning) bacteria. However, there is one more very important factor to consider.
2. pH balance! When you consider a mouthwash, you also need to consider it’s overall impact on your health. Mouth pH has an effect on bacteria as well as your ability to keep your teeth healthy and strong. An acidic mouth causes rapid bacteria growth and also adds to a potential net-negative effect on the calcium and phosphate in your teeth.
3. Most people have heard that some mouthwash that contains a high concentration of alcohol will dry the mucous membranes of the mouth. Yet, few understand what that means!
When the mouth is dry, bacteria will reproduce more rapidly! This can ultimately cause the exact opposite of the effect you were looking for. More bacteria could spell more bad breath! Congrats, you have found a temporary solution that could make things worse in the long run!
Getting back to the pH balance! pH balance is very important for a similar reason as mentioned above. When the pH of the mouth is low – bacteria grow more rapidly.
In addition, low pH is not good for the health of your teeth either. In an acidic environment it is more likely that calcium and phosphate will be pulled out of your tooth enamel leaving you more vulnerable to cavities and teeth that can more easily crack because their fundamental strength has been compromised.
So, what can I do?
Get a mouthwash that has the ability to balance mouth pH that utilizes the power of oxygen instead of alcohol or other chemicals!
